My outdoor photography captures
the beauty and art in nature. The pattern on a butterfly's wing,
the interior of a flower, and the serene composition of a garden
all celebrate nature. I am particularly interested in the unique
colors and smallest details of the object I am studying. With
my close-up lenses I can peer right into the innermost parts of
a flower. In doing so, I expose the beauty and simplicity in the
very architecture of the flower itself.
My art is linked to a life-long pursuit of beauty and love of
nature. Growing up, my backyard was a hillside canyon where daily
I had immediate access to observe all kinds of wildlife. Now as
an adult, I continue to seek out other spaces in my current backyard
and during my travels around the world where I can find wildlife.
Much of what I photograph is impermanent. Seasons change in a
garden, flowers bloom and fade, and butterflies grace us with
their presence for a few days. It's my passion to capture that
fleeting moment of beauty.
All photographs are shot in natural settings with only the use
of available light. Close-up photographs are shot with a Canon
compact macro lens in order to render fine details such as water
droplets on a tulip or a dragonfly. Many subjects in my color
prints exhibit rich saturated colors.
